I guess I could elaborate. The problem seems to be that
${INSTALL_DIR}/lib/x86_64-apple-darwin10.8.0_opt/pkgconfig/Make.common.opt
does not know what $(libmesh_dir) is, so with your previous patch I
was ending up with include paths like:
-I/include/libmesh
which is obviously wrong.... on the other hand it does know what
$(top_srcdir) is.
