This is good for libtool-based projects in general (and libtool is
good in general despite these annoyances - switching to autotools
unbroke our Cygwin builds *incidentally*, and it looks like libtool
was why), but there's a nicer trick for debugging libMesh examples
(and apps using the same environment variable):
LIBMESH_RUN='libtool --mode=execute gdb --args'
