I think this is related to a combination of two things: automake uses "tar
--format=ustar" when it makes its tarballs, and I have a really large user
id on my system (uid=1835337469) due to Active Directory.
This results in the following error for every file in the directory in
question:
tar: tests/geom/.deps/unit_tests_devel-point_test.Po: Numeric user ID too
largeNumeric group ID too large
I guess one option would be to make a new user that is not in AD and run
make distcheck with them, but I also wonder how important it is to keep
using the "ustar" format... sounds like it might be a bit old at this point.
For the time being, I'm just using a linux box instead...
