No, since the other MPI libraries are not in that directory. Also, I
did install MPI without root privileges. libthread.so must have been
there before.
Well, we'd need to see the actual link line being used by your mpicc
compiler scripts. I believe you can pass -echo as a command line
argument to mpicc and it should report the exact link line it uses.
For example on my computer I got
