Ah, here's (at least part of) the problem: libmesh-0.9.4 does not support
PETSc 3.6.0.  If you want to use that version of PETSc (which I do
recommend) you should use the master branch of libmesh.  PETSc 3.6.0 and
libmesh support for it was only added as of June 2015.
