It works fine so I guess the problem lies within the user configuration that was migrated from v3 to v4. I've removed all files under Library/Application Support/Libreoffice and now it also works on my account as well. The mystery seems to be solved. At least this solution works for me, so unless you want to pursue the configuration migration issue this one can be closed.
