For some reason, in my system I don't see the deviance. There is the new gap,
but it is not easy to see anything asymmetrical regarding the distances around
the cell grid lines.

When selecting multiple cells, the asymmetry is not in the distance, but rather
in the "selection" color, because the active cell has 3 sides with a (white)
gap and 1 side filled with the "selection" color.

Maybe the "selection" color should cover all 4 sides between the grid line and
the active cell line when more than one cell is selected and the selection
includes the active cell. Other selected ranges would/should not be affected
(when non-adjacent ranges are selected too).
