The difference: slowdown starts with moving mouse cursor above the animating image with (Windows). Whereas having the mouse cursor simply above the animating gif causing spinning beach balls on macOS: So it's even hard to move the mouse away from the image There are no slowdowns in presentation mode. Bottom line: creating presentations with GIFS on MacOS is terrible. It's still very bad on others OSes Your debugging skills are good and the perseverance to getting it right too :-).
