Bug ID: 162008
Summary: Automating Gap/Object Position Redistribution for
Easier Aligning and Repositioning of Objects
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.6.5.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Base
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Instead of tediously having to move objects one by one, allow the option to
click an Auto-Distribute Evenly of objects. This would involve the software to
identify the position of the Top selected object and then the bottom selected
object, and then counting the number of objects selected and then identifying
the size of each object, and then identifying the size of each gap between them
in order to automatically adjust the size between that gap.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Hold Shift and Select Multiple objects
2. Click on a button to Automatically Space out/ Redistribute the gapping
between each object
Actual Results:
Objects would in theory align themselves with even spacing
Expected Results:
Evenly spaced out items after using the proposed button(s)
Reproducible: Didn't try
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
This idea came to me before I started experiencing many issues and bugs with
the positioning of objects in the Design Mode of Libre Office Base. I have used
other Programs in the past that have this button/option. I think a lot of time
is wasted on repositioning things in Libre Office Base, there is no way to
enhance the precision when moving objects around with the cursor, so one must
manually open the Control Properties box and check the Position and Sizes of
each object and then manually calculate the exact amount of space between each
object or the gap and manually type the precise values. Doing this however
caused me to stumble on 2 Bugs and made this task ever more tedious and
retarding. If one is not familiar with all of the sensibilities of the Libre
Office Base app, one is bound to stumble on multiple bugs and issues related to
designing Forms which should be seamless since building forms is the most basic
part of the program. One may argue that one can use the wizard to automate the
form from the beginning but sometimes one does not know about all the things
they will be adding to the form and they make forms as they go, slowly adding
new things. In this scenario one can easily see that adding new objects to the
form and getting them aligned can be very tedious and time consuming especially
with the bugs involved. Please consider either solving the bugs or adding these
features , much is appreciated thank you
