            Bug ID: 163138
Summary: Writer, margins, Gutter: setting Gutter with works
                    faultily
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 24.2.6.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
So, Writer, we are setting up a page style.
This includes page size, margins and more.

How you get here?
Alt+2 (Sidebar, Styles)

(See Writer Guide 24.2 / page 112)

We have selected mirrored pages (cause we're building a book).

The problem:
After you set up the margins, say, 2cm inner, 2cm outer..
You add some gutter space.

What is gutter?
Imagine a book glued together of 200 sheets of paper.
Ever page will lost of its territory to gluing :) To the glued area.
Therefore, the book won't look like on your screen.
Because of the gluing.

You have to "give" (reserve) some space for that.
This is what gutter width does, actually.

.......................................................
So, you add 0.6cm Gutter width (instead of 0).

(I WORK WITH 0.6cm value in this example)

What should happen?
The page with all the text (the text area, so to speak) should be shifted
towards the side of the page (outwards, both on the left and the right side).

It should be a clean movement, everything goes 0.6cm towards the page side.
But this is not what happens.
The inner margin gets 0.6cm larger
(meaning: more white area, less text on the inner side of the text area in the
pages).

What should happen instead?
The inner margin should be 0.6cm wider, just like it happens.
BUT also the outer margin should change.
THE outer margin should shrink by 0.6cm.

THe text area of the page should be the same size as before.
Only everything should be slid (shifted) outwards by 0.6cm.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to page style (sidebar / Styles / page styles)
2. add some gutter width: set it to 0.6cm (from 0.0cm).
3. look at your page

Actual Results:
The text area becomes narrower

Expected Results:
The text area should have remained the same size,
(the lines should break at the same spots as before:

for example:

let's say it looks like before the gutter is being added

crazy fox 1, crazy fox 2, crazy fox 3, crazy fox 4,
crazy fox 5, crazy fox 6,

it should look like this after the gutter has been added, still..

NOT like this:
crazy fox 1, crazy fox 2, crazy fox 3, crazy
fox 4, crazy fox 5, crazy fox 6,

Reproducible: Always
