Thank you for the response!

I installed the programme as I always do: I click on the msi file. Without
invoking admin rights.

Since then, after having worked on and saved a document in safe mode using
admin rights, all of  a sudden the safe mode would also start normally, w/o
admin rights. If you then chose to continue in normal mode, it would initially
work, but then crash. 

It then even started in normal mode w/o admin rights, but also immediately
crashed. 

I looked for a crash report and submitted that to ChatGPT. It suggested: “Check
Graphics Settings: Since Skia is disabled, you could try enabling it (or vice
versa) in Tools > Options > View, which might resolve display or
performance-related crashes.”  I went there and found that Skia was indeed
disabled, but I could check a box that forced its use. I did. After that,
everything worked fine! 

Why had it been disabled in the first place?

All very strange, but am happy that things are now working!
