Based on the screenshot in attachment 196988, I would suggest potential
alternatives, in order to improve the contrast between the intended "border"
lines and the rest of the icon:

* Increase the width of the to-be-applied "border"; this would (intentionally)
exaggerate the "border" line, making it non-proportional to the rest of the
icon – I am saying this as a potential positive effect, but the result might
make me change my current opinion.

* Increase the contrast between the "border" lines and the rest of the icon;
the current colors in the icons shown in attachment 196988 seem to be some
variation of "grayish".

OTOH, the equivalent icons in my MS Windows OS seem to have more contrast,
showing less gray areas and more black ("to-be-applied border") vs a clearer
gray ("closer to white", if I'm allowed the expression).

Themes ("Automatic", "Light", "Dark",...) or similar/related visual effects are
another factor to consider.
