Description:
In the rectangle identifying formula objects there has always been some empty
space before and after the start of the actual formula. This has for unknown
reasons increased in late releases compared to previous versions, e.g. release
6.
When inserting formulas inline in text, this makes it difficult to maintain an
even spacing between words and formulas.
IMHO, formulas objects should not have empty spaces between their borders and
the actual formula, since these are rigid and not modifiable; old, smaller
spaces could be acceptable, but now such spaces are really too wide. Space
between words and formulas inline with text should be made by the space
character, just like those used between any couple of words, not by forced
space within the formula object.
With the present situation, if you do not want to have too large spaces between
words and inline formulas, you must leave no space character between the
preceding word and the formula object, and these causes some problems with the
formatting of paragraphs.
Check the attached image, where I compare the same formula as displayed by LO
6.3 (above) and Lo 24.2 (below), with exactly the same formatting. It is easy
to see that spaces before and after the actual formula in the formula object
has increased. The best thing, IMHO, would it for this space to be almost
negligible.
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open a writer doc, and insert a math formula
2.in the rectangle ofthe formula object, space before and after the first and
last character of the formulas has increased when compared to older LO releases

Small or even negligible spaces before and after the actual formula in the
formula objects
