Ah, you got me there. For a few days at around the time this was happening I
was experimenting with using Quickstarter enabled via LibreOffice Options 'Load
LibreOffice during system start-up'. Sometimes I had it enabled and other times
not. Afraid I can't be of any more help on that. In the end I decided that
Quickstart wasn't making much difference to load times so stopped using it
entirely for now.

For my future reference I will keep in mind what you say on killing processes
(and Quickstart if I decide on further experiment with it) when doing updates
or adding extensions.
