            Bug ID: 166629
Summary: Grammar Extensions (WritingTool / Grammalecte) Not
Functioning on LibreOffice 25.2 (macOS Sequoia, M4)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.2.0.0 alpha0+
          Hardware: ARM
                OS: macOS (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Extensions
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
I’m reporting a persistent issue where grammar checker extensions are not
functioning in LibreOffice 25.2 on macOS.

System:
- Mac Mini (2025), Apple M4 chip
- macOS Sequoia 15.4.1
- LibreOffice 25.2.0 (App Store and direct download builds tested)
- Java 17 (Adoptium ARM64, installed and verified)
- Spellcheck works normally
- Grammar check never triggers for any known extensions

Here’s what I’ve tested:

- Installed and activated WritingTool (LanguageTool-based) and Grammalecte, one
at a time
- Verified grammar modules are listed in Preferences > Writing Aids and
properly checked
- Enabled “Check grammar as you type”
- Removed conflicting grammar tools to avoid overlap
- Purged the LibreOffice user profile via Terminal:
  mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/LibreOffice ~/Library/Application\
Support/LibreOffice_Backup
- Reinstalled extensions from fresh `.oxt` downloads after reset
- Verified all extensions appear as active in Extension Manager

Despite all of this, no grammar suggestions appear — even with intentionally
incorrect sentences (e.g., “Bills dog bark loudly every nights.”).

Expected behavior: grammar engine should underline issues and offer contextual
suggestions.
Actual result: only spellcheck underlines typos; grammar modules never engage.

This issue seems specific to grammar checker activation under macOS + ARM
builds (Apple Silicon). I’d appreciate any insight, workaround, or confirmation
on whether this is a known limitation.

Thank you for your time and continued development of LibreOffice.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open LibreOffice Writer

Ensure “Check grammar as you type” is enabled in Preferences > Language
Settings > Writing Aids

Install and activate either:

WritingTool 1.2 (LanguageTool-based), or

Grammalecte 2.1.1 (English)

Type this test sentence:

Bills dog bark loudly every nights.

Actual Result:
No grammar issues are underlined.
Only spelling errors (e.g., “nites” instead of “nights”) are caught.
Grammar modules are installed, enabled, and visible — but no grammar
suggestions ever appear.

Actual Results:
Grammar modules are installed, enabled, and visible — but no grammar
suggestions ever appear.

Expected Results:
Expected Result:
Grammar engine detects multiple issues and underlines them.
Examples:

“Bills” → should suggest Bill’s

“bark” → should suggest barks

“nights” → should suggest night

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Tested with LibreOffice 25.2.0.0 on macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 (Apple M4)

Confirmed that Java 17 (Adoptium ARM64) is active and properly detected

Spellcheck is working as expected

Problem persists across both .docx and .odt file formats

Behavior is consistent even after full profile reset

No grammar engine (WritingTool or Grammalecte) produces suggestions of any kind

I'm happy to provide logs or test builds if needed.
