Tds e majority opinion is that even though the toolbar should be relatively simple by default, it should also cater to users who do want more options for their search, via controls which are hidden by default, like searching for whole words only, and regex search. We did not specifically discuss whether the choice of search options for the toolbar, sidebar and dialog should be linked or not, but I believe it was implicit that the choice would be independent.
