--- Comment #16 from Jim Avera <[email protected]> ---
This is another case of where "Clear Direct Formatting" does not actually clear
ALL direct formatting.

Please look at the new, trivial example ("small_langdemo.odt") attached, which
contains two paragraphs - the first copied from the original document.

I did select-all and Clear Direct Formatting.

However when I look inside the .odt file the "Bulgarian" paragraph DOES HAVE
DIRECT FORMATTING (aka uses an "automatic" style"), and that style specifies

    fo:country="BG" fo:language="bg"

It seems to me that "Clear Direct Formatting" should have removed this.

Here is a more complete excerpt from content.xml:
------------------------------------
  <office:automatic-styles>

    <style:style style:family="paragraph" style:name="P1"
style:parent-style-name="Standard">
      <style:text-properties fo:country="BG" fo:language="bg"/>
    </style:style>

  </office:automatic-styles>

  <office:body>
    <office:text>

      <text:p text:style-name="P1">The Character style for everything in this
paragraph shows Language=Bulgarian even though there are not supposed to be any
Direct Formatting (and the Default Paragraph style has a font with
Language=English). <text:s/>Inside the .odt file, content.xml shows that this
paragraph *does* have a „automatic“ style which specifies <text:s
text:c="3"/>fo:country="BG" fo:language="bg"</text:p>
      <text:p text:style-name="P1"/>

      <text:p text:style-name="Standard">This paragraph, however, has
characters with Language=English, and the language box at the bottom of the
screen shows English when the cursor is in this paragraph. <text:s
text:c="3"/>This paragraph also has a hidden “automatic” style but it does not
specify fo:country or fl:language.</text:p>

    </office:text>
  </office:body>
