            Bug ID: 171394
Summary: When inserting a styled table, want ability to combine
orthogonal styles for border use; tinting/bg; and
                    color palette
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Keywords: needsUXEval
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
        Depends on: 149271

When I insert a new table visa Table > Insert Table..., I am offered a choice
of style. This is good, but - I should not just have to choose from a linear
list.

I should be able to choose, orthogonally, various sets-of-aspects of my table's
style. Something like this is what Microsoft Office offers on one of its
ribbons:

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=205608

it lets you select a color, or a color palette, separately from the rest of the
table styling (although the two dimensions of the grid of style mockups at the
link are not actually orthogonal).

We can one-up them, with three orthogonal choices:

* What kind of borders the table will have (it's easy to offer 5-6 combinations
or more: Column separators yes/no distinct header-row-to-body border yes/no,
same but for columns yes/no, rectangle surrounding entire table yes/no, body
row separators yes/no)
* What kind of use of cell background colors the table will have (again, easy
to create 5-6 options: With/without alternating row colors; headers
with/without background, body cells with/without background, headers deeper
color and body lighter / vice versa)
* What color palette to use for the table

Now, you might say: "Wait a minute, won't that mean we have to apply DF for
some of the style aspects? Or alternatively, ship with N x M x K different
styles for each of those combinations?"

The answer is negative: We will actually be selecting _three_ table styles,
which will combine, like all ODF styles can: bug 149271. That will also mean
that we would be able to make changes to each one of these three aspects
separately; or, of course, apply a single table style covering everything we're
interested in - if we are so inclined.
