This is fairly easy to fix manually - if you are that motived. Simply unzip the
docx into a new folder, open up word/settings.xml and change the
compatibilityMode=11 to compatibilityMode=15, and then zip all the contents of
the new folder back up again - as a .docx extension of course.

Technically it is not broken. Additionally, changing the compatibilityMode has
a lot of effect on the layout, so in general it is not good to change that
unless being VERY intentional. IMHO the effort to build this kind of
complication into LibreOffice is not worth it.
