And yet it also serves useful purposes for manipulating text, and many of its
functions serve to evaluate strings -- if you were correct, then we might as
well eliminate all of those string counting and manipulation functions as
distractions from the main purpose.

My suggestion for dealing with the current inadequacy (which is only the result
of the incidental dominance of LTR languages at the current moment) is to
implement a simple RTL flip of the formula bar when the underlying cell is RTL.
When entering a formula beginning with the equal sign, the bar can go back to
being LTR.

Perhaps some of the other RTL language users (e.g., Eyal, Khaled) can weigh in.
