It can happen with either small or large zoom levels. It is not a consistent
behavior that you could see "from x to y zoom level". You might have zoom
factors from 100 to 120 displaying the "$" symbol aligned, and then at 160%
misaligned, and then 180 and up aligned again. Or it might happen with some
smaller factor (but it is easier to see with larger ones, obviously).

The discrepancies are also triggered by the column width too. If you change the
zoom factor to one that shows the misalignment, and then you set a new
(optimal) column width, the misalignment might be "solved" for that specific
zoom factor, but then it could be triggered while using a different zoom
factor. I have not checked whether this used to happen in older versions too.

The potential misalignment is easier to see when using numeric values with a
different number of digits ("$ 1234.56" vs "$ 23.01"), probably because the
cell has to account for a different amount of delimiters, in addition to the
difference in number of digits.

I tend to use monospaced fonts (at least for numerical columns that should
rather be aligned) in order to reduce this kind of misalignment, instead of
fighting every case that could show up. I am aware that some users do not like
to use monospaced fonts; I just decide to be practical.

To be clear, the misalignment of the "$" symbol (i.e. the filling-up of space)
can still be triggered with monospaced fonts too (depending on zoom factor and
column width). I can overcome the misalignment by changing the column width
when using the relevant zoom factor, but it might not be seen in the same exact
way when sending the spreadsheet to other users (or when sharing the
spreadsheet).
