Bug ID: 172537
Summary: Warn the saving to CSV will discard sheets
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.4.2 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
I opened a CSV file, added a second sheet, added some data there, then saved
back to CSV.
I got the warning that some things might be lost, but that's a bag of different
things that usually means formatting.
In this case, after saving, I got an information dialog saying that I lost data
because the second sheet was not saved.
I think that most of the time losing formatting can be annoying but not that
bad (TBH, this is why I ignored the first warning), but losing data should not
be a no-no and should be warned differently.
The phrasing is:
"This document may contain formatting or content that cannot be saved..."
IMO:
* "content" should be bold, and maybe "cannot be saved'. We do get dialog
fatigue.
* maybe "data" or "content or data"?
* it would be nice if there was a list of things that can't be saved, but I
understand it's hard to compile it.
Yeah, in this end, it was my fault, but I really think this can be improved. In
any case, feel free to close if you think this has no merit.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open or create a CSV
2. Add a second sheet
3. Add data to this second sheet.
4. Save the file
5. You get prompted about the file format.
Actual Results:
Dialog mentioning but not highlighting loss of data.
Expected Results:
Dialog highlighting loss of data.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
