Bug ID: 172710
Summary: Calc: Provide user-defined favorite number formats for
quick access in the NotebookBar
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.4.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
Calc provides extensive support for custom number formats.
However, frequently used formats are not easily accessible from the
NotebookBar.
Professional users repeatedly apply the same number formats throughout the day,
requiring frequent access to the Format Cells dialog.
Providing user-defined favorite number formats would significantly reduce
repetitive actions and improve workflow efficiency.
This proposal focuses on improving access to existing functionality rather than
introducing new formatting capabilities.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Calc.
2. Select one or more cells.
3. Attempt to apply a custom number format that is not one of the predefined
quick formats.
4. Repeat this operation multiple times during normal spreadsheet work.
Actual Results:
Applying custom number formats requires repeatedly opening the Format Cells
dialog.
Frequently used custom formats cannot be stored as quick-access favorites.
The workflow becomes repetitive during everyday spreadsheet use.
Expected Results:
Users should be able to create a list of favorite number formats.
Favorite formats should be directly accessible from the NotebookBar.
Suggested capabilities include:
• Add current format to Favorites.
• Remove favorite formats.
• Reorder favorites.
• Synchronize favorites across documents.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
I recently migrated my primary computer from Windows to Linux Mint with the
intention of adopting LibreOffice as my primary office suite.
My daily work consists mainly of accounting, invoicing, financial reporting and
spreadsheet templates.
During this migration I evaluated Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, WPS
Office, OnlyOffice and Google Sheets.
LibreOffice already supports virtually every number format I need
professionally.
The limitation is not formatting capability.
The limitation is how quickly those formats can be accessed during everyday
work.
Accountants, administrators and financial analysts often reuse the same formats
hundreds of times.
Examples include:
• dd/mm/yyyy
• dd-mmm-yyyy
• Currency
• Accounting
• Percentage
• Thousands separator
• Four decimal places
Most users repeatedly use only a small subset of all available formats.
The Number Format dropdown could include a Favorites section.
Example:
General
Number
Currency
Percentage
----------------
Favorites
✓ dd/mm/yyyy
✓ Accounting
✓ Currency
✓ 0.0000
----------------
Manage Favorites...
Many office applications provide quick access to frequently used formats.
LibreOffice already supports custom number formats.
This proposal does not request new formatting functionality.
It only proposes faster access to existing capabilities.
Benefits:
• Faster workflows.
• Fewer dialog windows.
• Reduced repetitive actions.
• Better NotebookBar usability.
• Higher productivity.
• Easier adoption by professional users.
