You can decide if the following amounts to a bug: when importing a csv and not checking that box, a dollar-numeric value does not contain the ', fooling the user into thinking all is well, but it gets added when one attempts to format it as a number of any kind. Once that gets added, the only thing that works is to delete the ', which does convert the cell to numeric. If I have many cells, this is impractical. There is some other property in that field, inaccessible to me, that identifies it as text.
