Bug ID: 172951
Summary: Better support of two-page working (face2face, book
view): Pgup/dn for two-page thumb through
Product: Document Liberation Project
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: General
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Requirement: Having a new uno command "Go to top of the next (and previous)
left shown page".
The effect of this command should depend on the select view mode. "View - Zoom
: Colums:2" which is really ...Page:2" should select the left presented next
/previous page of the double page view,
as well as "View - Zoom: Singe page" should have the same effect as todays "To
Next Page" or ==>uno:GoToNextPage and "To Previous Page" ==>.uno:GoToPrevPage.
Motivation: LibreOffice has the big advantage to write documents with a
detailed plan of what goes on which page (in opposite to such tools as Asciidoc
or even LaTex in its pdf result).
For that, working in the two page view in bookmode (! odd page right) is
possible and proper.
For a fast overview on working it should be possible to select each the next
double page as one key press action, which sets the cursor on the top of the
left presented page. This allows with one simple key press to thumb through the
document. Then, as User eXperience moving, the cursor with mouse to the
interesting position for adjusting the text is very simple. The problem "where
is the cursor" which complicates the work flow, is no more existing. The eyes
of the user have a fix orientation. Also, the problem "where am I, where is the
interesting text" is no more existing.
The preferred keys for page selection is of course PgUp/Dn which can assigned
in the "user - Customize: Keyboard", or better: Should be automatically
assigned if this view mode is selected.
State of the art, today:
1) Page thumb through is possible in the "print preview" with Dn and Up keys,
but select the print preview and deselect is not a fast work flow handling.
2) It is possible to redirect the Pgup and Pgdn to "To Next Page" or
==>uno:GoToNextPage and "To Previous Page" ==>.uno:GoToPrevPage instead
originally "Next Page" ==>.uno:PageDown. That is very helpful. But this
requires pressing the key twice, and search with the eyes "is the cursor yet
left or right" which troubles the work flow on the document.
Additional hint: It should be always set the cursor to the left shown page
independent of even or odd (even is preferred), independent of the "Book mode"
selection. There are some different necessities for the double page working,
which I can explain in an additional comment.
