I downloaded Abril Fatface from https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Abril+Fatface
I opened the ttf in FontForge.
In Element - Font Info I see it is from 2011.
I did View - Goto: yod to jump to the relevant glyph area.
I saw that there are no glyphs for Arabic or Hebrew.

Likewise, if I examine the Language support section in
https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Abril+Fatface/glyphs I don't find Arabic or
Hebrew included.

So can you give an example of a font which you confirm does include the glyphs,
but doesn't work?
