Actually, a little more to it than that. Installing TDF packaged builds checks enabled both legacy 'Check for updates' (benign, but it does pester); while the MAR based 'Enable Automatic Update' triggers and runs without user or Admin control on install. Use can disable both, but it requires Tools -> Options dialog use and is per user to profile. See also bug 164757 to control behavior during installs, and its corollary bug to 'manually trigger' the MAR update checks of bug 167406. Note: when the MAR updater 'first' runs, it does prompt the user if they want to proceed.
