Bug ID: 173453
Summary: Impress: Sound file preview in file picker (used by
"Interaction > Play sound") freezes and crashes
LibreOffice on Windows, regression since 26.x (works
fine in 25.x)
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.3 release
Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Impress, create or open a presentation.
2. Insert or select an object on a slide.
3. Right-click the object > Interaction (or via the menu: Format >
Interaction).
4. Set "Action at click" to "Play sound".
5. Click "..." to open the file picker and select an MP3 sound file.
6. Attempt to preview/play the sound directly from within the file picker
window.
Actual results:
LibreOffice closes the file picker window and the whole application freezes
(hangs), requiring the process to be killed.
Expected results:
The file picker should preview the selected sound file without crashing or
freezing the application.
Additional information:
- Reproduced consistently on several different Windows 11 PCs, ruling out a
single-machine or driver issue.
- K-Lite Codec Pack was initially suspected (it was installed on one machine)
but the issue persists after fully uninstalling K-Lite, ruling out a codec-pack
conflict.
- The same MP3 file works perfectly in this exact same scenario when using a
portable LibreOffice 25.x installation from USB on the same PCs, strongly
pointing to a regression introduced in the 26.x branch.
- Windows Media Foundation is presumably used by LibreOffice's file picker
preview on Windows; this may point to a change in avmedia/Media Foundation
handling between 25.x and 26.x.
