There is no denying that it might be useful. The point is that when exactly to close LO is up to the user, and he is aware of it, whereas how much of the resources might be unnecessary wasted is less evident, and more frequent than the other case. BTW, a few characters occupying the clipboard is one thing, whereas having dozens of pages from Writer, or tens of thousands of cells from Calc, are two different orders of magnitude.
