With the color scheme set to Automatic and KDE Plasma in dark mode, spelling-error underlines are still drawn in dark red and are barely visible on a dark document background. Manually setting a brighter color for "Spelling mistakes" under Appearance works around it, so the problem is the Automatic scheme's default color. Also confirmed on a different setup from the original report (native Debian package, kf6 VCL on Wayland, vs. Flatpak/gtk3), so it doesn't appear to be backend-specific. This is a broader readability issue and probably won't cleanly resolve with just a color change. I'll file that separately, but making a decision about higher contrast colors in dark mode is low hanging fruit.
