Therefore the attachment uses text as input. Excel and Calc differ in corner cases. However, Excel is not consistent in its result for empty cell and empty string. The result Err:504 (= Error in parameter list) is surely wrong for the case of an empty string, because an empty string is nevertheless a string. I would expect a #N/A as default and the fallback string if given. However, Excel returns an error. As Excel is inconsistent in the returned error, I have no recommendation for this case. The result for an empty cell as input is questionable. It is likely, that the ODF TC will agree on resulting an error, but will not specify what kind of error.
