--- Comment #8 from Regina Henschel <[email protected]> --- We might consider to provide a table style "Layout helper", that has no borders and no padding and no cell backgrounds. The use case of such table template are situations, where a user wants an image and next to it several paragraphs of text. Such layout is easier to achieve by a table than by using a two column section with manual column break. Additional remarks to https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=173510#c12 * The specification of <table:table-template> element (16.20, ODF 1.4) says, "A <table:table-template> element represents a set of references to table cell styles that specify the formatting to be used when creating a table." Notice the part "when creating a table". The question is, whether insert/delete of row/column is a "create" action. And a question is, whether a double-click on a table style in the sidebar to assign or reassign a table style is considered a "create" action. I think not. Perhaps the ODF description should be improved? It might be necessary to have something like "update", that keeps direct cell formatting. For an insert action, for example, the user likely expects that even-odd background formatting defined in the template is newly calculated, whereas a directly set cell border is retained. * The cell styles associated with the template are written as custom styles in <office:styles> part of the styles.xml. The user can edit these via the `Table Styles` section in the `Styles` pane of the sidebar. That is an improvement compared to earlier implementations. * LibreOffice writes the table cell styles in the <office:automatic-styles> part of the content.xml, even if the user has not made any direct formatting to the cells. Why not reference the cell styles associated with the template instead, and use those in the <office:automatic-styles> for true direct formatting only? The direct formatting styles could be kept then, if a cell style associated with the table template is changed. That would in addition allow to update those cell style names only, that do not reference an automatic style, when a different table template will be applied. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
