Thanks for taking a look at the report. You're right that U+25AF is a valid Unicode character. I used β― as a visual indicator for an empty rectangle appearing in place of an expected character, but I can see how that could be confusing. The main issue I'm trying to document is the reproducible rendering behaviour shown in the videos, including cases where characters disappear, change appearance, or move relative to other characters depending on the context. I realise the report covers several different symptoms, and I don't know whether they share the same underlying cause. Here are a few examples illustrating different aspects of the problem. Each link starts at the relevant point in the video. Calc case 8 - Font substitution, disappearing characters and characters swapping positions The test uses data-validation cells containing selectable strings (see the attached "Example - B C with alternating font sizes.ods"). There is a left string and a right string, and the order in which they are selected matters. - Linux: https://youtu.be/otLVxsDlr2E?t=431 - Windows: https://youtu.be/uOALFLAbge0?t=82 Note: The spaceman emoji sometimes disintegrates into separate characters. When the left string 10. and string 16. are set some characters swap positions. As in the other cases, there are both similarities and differences between the Linux and Windows results. Calc case 10.b - Scrolling and zooming affect character rendering Scrolling and zooming change how characters in the left and right strings are rendered. Characters may also disappear or be replaced by rectangles. - Linux: https://youtu.be/otLVxsDlr2E?t=615 - Windows: https://youtu.be/uOALFLAbge0?t=165 The Linux recordings of cases 10.a and 10.c also show interesting additional behaviour, particularly towards the end of each case. Also related is Writer case 2 on Linux: https://youtu.be/otLVxsDlr2E?t=752 - Visible part of document + zooming affects the other parts when scrolling up/down. Impress case 4 - Editing changes character positions and appearance Deleting characters and merging lines can cause unexpected changes, including characters moving position, font substitution, and disappearing characters. This case also uses some characters not present in Calc cases 8 and 10.b. Some of the emoji-style characters used to illustrate the Calc cases appear in line 4. - Linux: https://youtu.be/otLVxsDlr2E?t=917 - Windows: https://youtu.be/uOALFLAbge0?t=237 Content used: π² β»π²β β»πβ (π) (π») (π) (β―) (π) (β’) (β£ β’) β»π¨πΏβπβ β»βοΈβββΆβπͺβ βΉβΊβπͺ΄π§Ύπππ¨ππ£π«π¨πΏβππΏπ² All six lines except the first end with a space character.
