Bug ID: 174109
Summary: PDF export: the /Contents of an Impress click-action
link is the action name ("Go to document"), not the
shape's alternative text
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: accessibility, filter:pdf
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Impress
Assignee: [email protected]

A picture with a title, a description and a click action
When a shape or picture in Impress has an Interaction (click action), such as
"Go to page or object" or "Go to document" (a URL), the PDF export creates a
/Link annotation over the shape. The /Contents of that annotation, which is its
alternate description, is the name of the action in the Interaction dialog,
e.g. "Go to document". It tells nothing about the target. The shape's Title and
Description, which already give the shape's /Figure its /Alt, are not used.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the attached picture-link.fodp: a picture with Title "Logo",
Description "Company logo, links to example.org", and a click action that opens
https://example.org/.
2. File > Export as PDF, with "Universal Accessibility (PDF/UA)" checked.
3. Look at the /Contents of the link annotation on the page, or hover the link
in a PDF reader.
Actual: /Link with /Contents (Go to document), /A << /S /URI /URI
(https://example.org/) >>. The picture's /Figure has /Alt (Logo - Company logo,
links to example.org).
Expected: /Contents is the shape's Title and Description, as for the /Screen
annotation of a media shape; the action name only for a shape that has neither.
ISO 14289-1 (PDF/UA-1) 7.18.1: an annotation shall have an alternate
description in its /Contents key. WCAG 2.1 2.4.4 (Link Purpose): the purpose of
a link can be determined from the link text alone or with its context; "Go to
document" does not tell it.
In sd/source/ui/unoidl/unomodel.cxx, ImplPDFExportShapeInteraction passes
SdResId(SdTPAction::GetClickActionSdResId(eCa)), the dialog string (e.g.
STR_CLICK_ACTION_DOCUMENT), to every CreateLink. For a media shape the same
function already builds the alternative text from Title and Description.
The attached picture-link.26.8-output.pdf is the output of 26.8.0.3.
Reproduced on 26.8.0.3, macOS. The same with a PPTX a:hlinkClick on a picture.
The link is also not in the structure tree (no Link element, veraPDF PDF/UA-1
rule 7.18.5-1); that will be a separate report.
