Bug ID: 174140
Summary: Writer no longer remembers the table style that I
designed
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.8.0.0 alpha0+ master
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: bisected, regression
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]

Ever since 26.8, a table style that I created is no longer available in
subsequent Writer sessions. In other words...
// This method is only called by calc. In writer tables styles are stored at
document level
bool SvxAutoFormat::Save()

tdf#105933 GSoC: New Dialog to Edit Table Styles
- Introduce 'SvxAutoFormat' which combines the common functionality of
Writer and Calc Autoformats.
- Replace module specific 'AutoFormat' dialog and preview with shared
dialog and preview in 'svx'.
- tdf#49437: Load and Save Autoformats through XML instead of
'autotbl.fmt'.
- New Dialog to edit and create table styles shared b/w Writer and Calc.

Writer did save to the user profile prior to Karthik's changes. As a user
creating a table style, I would certainly expect it to be available for more
than just one document.
Steps to reproduce:
-start a new Writer document
-insert a table somehow (i.e. via the toolbar)
-Table - AutoFormat Styles - Add style (and give it any name). OK.
-either OK or cancel out of the AutoFormat Styles dialog.
-look in the sidebar - Styles - Table styles and see your new style there.
-close Writer and restart it, creating a new document
-look in the sidebar - Styles - Table styles. Your new style is missing.
If you do these steps before Karthik's change in 26.8, your new style will be
available there.
This is basically the same thing as bug 174076, but I am creating this separate
issue to track exactly this problem (and not get distracted by the side effects
of it). But looking at the side effects is also useful in defining what ought
to happen.
For example, when we load up a document, the import process adds tables from
the document into rDoc.GetTableStyles(). But if we add or modify a table style,
then the save process should NOT be cluttering up the user profile with tables
imported from documents (unless the user is modifying that style, or is using
it as a parent style). So we should NOT actually be saving rDoc.GetTableStyles
out to the user profile. (Note that Calc does not write styles to the document,
so it also can't import them. Thus it doesn't face this particular problem.)
Bug 174076 gives a clue on how to handle this. SvxTableStylesDlg should
probably be given access to both rDoc.GetTableStyles() AS WELL AS a new
SwTableAutoFormatTables (which populates itself only with the contents of the
user profile) The editing should happen in the new SwTableAutoFormatTables, but
the list presented to the user should be the full rDoc set of styles.
