--- Comment #3 from Alistair Saywell <[email protected]> --- So Calc treats .ods and .xlsx files differently when it comes to cell protection? If it is an .xlsx file and you merge a range of cells, then unprotect the merged cell, then the range AND all the cells behind the range are unprotected. But if it is an .ods file then only the merged "range" and the top left cell is unprotected. In Excel, merging a range of cell and then unprotecting, is the same as unprotecting the range of cells and then merging them; the order of operation does not matter. Calc doesn't work as expected for the first method but does for the second; the order of operation has to be correct. There is no warning and the user expectation is that unprotecting a merged cell is the same as unprotecting a range of cells. For an existing spreadsheet that now needs to be protected, for each merged cell, the user has to unmerge, unprotect and then merge again, which could be time consuming and error prone with many merged cells. It sounds like a bug. The workaround is Save as XLSX, close the file, re-open it and save as .ods. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
