Yes. I know. That only works when filling down a single column though. If you
are filling down multiple columns, some with established numeric patterns, this
behaviour is very unwanted. 

I can understand that it does this when you select a single cell and fill down.
I'd expect that; but when you purposefully set an unchanging pattern in that
particular column, if it's just numbers, it doesn't increment, it only does so
when it's text. I don't think that is expected or wanted behaviour and it
differs from the behaviour of other spreadsheets. 

MS Office 2010, for instance does the expected thing and does not increment.
Gnumeric does something very similar. It only increments when you specifically
tell it to.

I think this is an undesirable behaviour and an unexpected one. Fill down with
numbers works one way and fill down with text ending in numbers works another.
