OK, that is clear.
But then I think: how much does that differ (it does, I know) from applying
direct formatting ?
You suggest a sort of stapled use of styles, after all.

And you know what you can do with inherritence of styles too?
   Style X = (example) Bold, Green, Red line, Blue background
   in Style Y (based on X) only change line to Yellow..
   Then a change in the other attributes of Style X will also affect style Y.

Your proposal would add another different logic-behaviour.
Is it needed that much, that it would make it worth (apart from the enginering
time, also the extra complicexity it would introduce ..) ?
