I'm sorry. You said we should use some real data, but we don't have any. I don't mean to blame you, because that's certainly not your fault. I can try to make an argument without data though. When using this app, it isn't my focus. Rather, I'm trying to ensure I'm facing the audience, speaking clearly, and so on. It's therefore important that the information I need be readily available without having to look closely for it, or move the mobile device close to my face (in fact, the device might be further away than arm-length in some cases). That might be difficult in a stressful situation with bright lights shining in my face, and/or in a dark room. Under those conditions, text is disfavoured. Much of the data should be presented visually, but in a non-text format. This might be in addition to text. In this case, there's no reason a progress indication can't include both a visual indicator progressing from left to right along with text to indicate the current slide number and the ending slide number.
