I would like to share a complementary use case.

The first description told :
> The functionnality should not be automatic, but manual

I agree with a manual use of the final tool which provides the final images
resolutions.

However, I think that the resolution (DPI) should be kept below a maximum limit
at insertion time.

For example each inserted image could be altered with :
- a default maximum resolution of 300 DPI (could be changed in "settings"
dialog)
- no quality change (for JPEG)
- no croping

At my office, the users are creating a lot of LO Writer documents and they
won't use a simple click in order to reduce the size of the document. What
should we keep images with 1200 DPI for ?

This maximum resolution at insertion time would have a huge side effect by
reducing the storage use (very expensive for us when the backup has to last
during 20 years).
