Priority: medium
Bug ID: 76815
Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: FORMATTING: Autosizing or font attributes with styles,
but not both
Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
Reporter: [email protected]
Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Version: 4.1.5.3 release
Component: Presentation
Product: LibreOffice
Problem description:
It's odd to me that there are two different formatting/styles modes - graphics
& presentation.
It's also odd to me that in order to get any kind of "fancy" text attributes
(color text font for example) in a custom style, one has to use a special text
box (F2) & graphic style.
When I created my presentation (which I admit this is my very first time), I
didn't use any styles. Later on, I went back to try and apply styles, and I
found that I couldn't do what I wanted unless I created a special "text box".
So now I have a text box that I have to resize manually to fit my presentation
frame box.
It doesn't make sense to me that in order to get the "advanced" feature of text
adjusting to the size of the frame, I have to use presentation style, but to
get a custom style I have to use graphics style.
I tried to use Outline 9 - since I know I'll never use that for any other
reason, as my custom style so I could get a Green font. I was unable to apply
it by double-clicking, and there is no Apply button.
I don't know what other people are doing with these 9 levels of outline, and
inability to use styles/colors/auto-sizing in a presentation slide.
Yes, I know I can apply the font/color manually, but isn't that the whole point
of styles?
Since I didn't know any better (first time using it, remember?) I designed all
my slides without styles, because it was natural, easy and didn't require that
I get forehead lines and scowling at the manual while massaging my temples.
Now that I've done the necessary 2+ hours of research to determine that I'm not
in fact an idiot, but that the features aren't implemented...
So I can get auto-sizing, or I can get font attributes with styles. I can't
have both.
I would like to see the two main style types - graphics & presentation -
merged, as well as "text" boxes (i.e. F2). They're already broken out in a
different way (hierarchy, etc.) so... why segment them the current way?
In other words, I don't see the value of the F2 text box. Get rid of it, or at
least bring it's features over into the presentation style, so that I can get
the best of both worlds (styles with custom attributes & fonts, plus
auto-sizing in a frame box).
Thank you and keep up the good work!
