Priority: medium
Bug ID: 78422
Assignee: [email protected]
Summary: Other: There is no way to turn off the saving of a
preview thumbnail into the document itself
Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
Reporter: [email protected]
Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA PossibleRegression
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Version: 4.2.3.3 release
Component: Libreoffice
Product: LibreOffice
Problem description: I was surprised to discover that some of my ~40K ods
spreadsheets suddenly became twice as large in file size. The reason is that
LibreOffice started saving a .png file that is the preview icon of the document
inside that very document. Suppose I have foo.ods. This is just a zip archive
really, and in some recent version of LIbreOffice it started containing
"thumbnail.png". The bug is that there appears to be no way for a user to TURN
OFF the saving of a thumbnail. I don't want my files to increase in size for
some "feature" I don't want. In this case my files doubled in size. If the
original document were smaller, it would have quadrupled or tripled, at least.
Please make a checkmark in preferences somewhere to disable this (I don't care
if the icons in the Startcenter are just white rectangles). Or, start storing
the thumbnails inside ~/Library/Preferences/Application Support/LibreOffice.
Or, if there already is a way to turn this off, please put it in the docs (I
looked and couldn't find it).
