--- Comment #8 from Jay Philips <philip...@hotmail.com> --- (In reply to comment #5) > i know i'm weird, but i click on the Edit File button a lot > to make an editable document read-only and thereby prevent myself > from accidentally modifying a document that i never intend to modify, > and also to remove the spell-checker underlines that distract when > just reading a document. No i dont think it is weird, as i had thought people might use it for better reading, but then why not just use page/print preview as it has similar no edit functionality. > also, it prevents nag dialogs when opening the same file > with multiple LO installations, but probably that is something > only developers/QA do... Yes for QA i always get nagged by that issue as i'm opening the doc in 6 different versions and there isnt any file double-click option to open in read mode. :) (In reply to comment #6) > people know it and use it when attachments from mail are opened as read only. > Are you available to help all those people Jay, often not handy in finding > new stuff in menus :) I would love to hear the exact scenario that users are opening attachments in read only, as when attachment come to me in thunderbird, i click open and it opens, never remember having a read only option for such attachments. Well it is not a new feature as its inherited from OOo and its not like i'm asking that it be removed from the toolbar, just that its disabled by default similar to 'Find & Replace' and 'Zoom', so that space can be opened up for more used functions like 'Insert Picture' or 'Insert Comment', IMHO. And for all those who might be searching through the menu for the feature, Ubuntu's searchable HUD has got your back. :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
