it's true, but what's the problem with Java? why can't you install it?

the macro recorder exist from the OOo era, so more than 10 years, and is a
default option of OOo and AOO since then. 

for some reasons (which I never agreed with) during the LibO process it was
moved in the options table together with the Experimental features under
"Options/LibreOffice/Advanced/Enable macro recording" were you see this:

Optional (unstable) Options
- enable experimental features
- enable macro recording (limited)

I think the text there is misleading since the "unstable" in the title should
refer just to the experimental features and not to the macro recording which is
only "limited" which means that you cannot convert in a macro 100% of the
actions. (I will file a new report asking rewording of this option page).

so, having said that, it 100% safe to use the macro recorder and you can
suggest it to your users.

the point is that macro recorder could be improved, that's sure, but like Joel
asked it would be better to describe specific scenarios in which you feel the
macro recording doesn't do what is expected.
