maybe his "Ctrl+C" hotkey is misconfigured and does not copy anything... that
would explain why he gets no paste after "Ctrl+V"

would you please check under "Tools/Customize/Keyboard" if the Ctrl+C is
correctly configured?
is there a chance that you have some clipboard manager program in the
background that intercepts your "Ctrl+C" so they don't reach the file manager
dialog?
