Problem description:
An old problem with charts in CALC did newly arrive with LibreOffice 3.5.x: the
data range and the series ranges cannot be freely adjusted. This happened
before and drove me mad about OpenOffice and (here I'm not sure) LibreOffice,
so I had to stay with my 2000 version of MSOffice for charts (by using Windows
XP in VirtualBox). It is okay with version 3.4.4, as I just did retest.
Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) updated today on MacBook Pro 17” mid 2009.
I' m frequently using x-y charts to show statistics along time. I had prepared
a file with a chart for which I had defined a range for data entry. Today - it
seemed - this range got used up and I wanted do extend it for the months to
come. At this point I also noticed that this was a line chart instead of an x-y
chart. I changed the chart type and tried to extend the range. Whatever I
entered for ranges it was immediately reduced to the range already filled with
data. I added a few more data lines and again I could extend the range up to
these new lines, but not further.
I got the original file back (thanks to Steve Jobs and his Time Machine!),
opened it with LO v3.4.4, changed chart type to x-y, and moved data and series
ranges freely up and down. I opened the newly prepared file with the extended
ranges with v3.5.0 and v3.5.1 and found the ranges reduced to the filled cells.
I deleted some rows of data – the ranges stayed where they were, even after
saving the file. But after closing and reopening the file the ranges were
reduced to the now smaller range of filled data.
By the way: I would be glad, if the problem with conditional formats not moving
with the cells they were defined for could be solved, as I' m using these quite
frequently. I just got to notice, that there is an additional problem: when the
spreadsheet is selected to be protected, the conditional formatting (and other
colour formatting) turn inactive.
Many thanks anyway for the great work.
