In comment 43 you said that after applying the workaround your screen rendering went slow and back to looking like the 80's. To me that suggests you've completely disabled anti-aliasing and hardware acceleration. Going that far shouldn't be necessary. In my experience disabling hinting and sub-pixel rendering is enough to make LO behave itself. All this should be a bad memory once OpenGL support is properly implemented.
