I've just noticed something else, though. When I try to format a given paragraph and the whole document changes, it doesn't seem to register as a change - the little icon at the bottom doesn't go from unmodified (green tick/check) to modified (red star) until I press Ctrl+Z to go back to the original formatting. (Again, this only applies when the whole paragraph is selected - if I leave a single letter out, the change only affects the selected text and it registers as a change, giving me a red star at the bottom.) If I try to save the new format when there's no red star, the change doesn't persist; it's not there after I close and re-open the document.
