Added: To correct my words, there’s of course ONE way to break the linkage—you
can remove the numbering from any of the lists and and then apply it again (two
clicks of the toolbar button). This however also removes any formatting made to
the list as it was, forcing one to re-apply that too. This was why I originally
tried to get around the problem by creating a numbering style, which lead to me
to notice that lists created using a user-defined numbering style are ALWAYS
linked.
