What kind of trace do you want? We have backtraces on Linux and
Windows. In a recent dbgutil build on Linux, I see the same function
names from the assertion down to about (IIRC) frame 48.
In comment 11, Matthew Francis reports reproducing the problem with
versions "back to the year dot". I think this forecloses the
possibility of bisecting the bug, right?
I note that this bug covers at least an assertion (comments 12 and
19), an access violation (comments 4 and 7), and "Fatal Error"
(description and comment 3), as well as unspecific "crash". Would it
be useful to split off the assertion, for example, into a separate bug
report? My rationale for including the assertion, back at comment 12,
was merely that it happened with the same STR.
